Panel Discussion 1: Conceptual Art and Traditional Hand-making Skills |
The speakers will approach the topic from different perspectives, considering recent major global trends in art practices, which include the conceptual approach that enables artists to adopt various conceptual methods to deal with real life situations or situations in public realm, and the re-adoption of traditional hand-making skills and methods for problem solving. Speakers will explore the way and the possibility in terms of combining the approaches or striking a balance between them in delivering arts education. Panel Discussion 2: Knowledge and Making |
What is the role of art-making while texts and written languages are always the major sources of knowledge obtained through school education? What is the kind of knowledge generated from art-making? In this session, speakers will explore ideas such as how can making contribute knowledge building and problem solving? What will generate when art and the maker culture come together? Besides, from neuroscience perspective, what happens to our brains when we learn through action and senses? The connection between art-making and cognitive neuroscience will also be investigated. Panel Discussion 3: School+: Innovative Strategies and Resources |
What should we teach in our art lessons? In this session, speakers will discuss the expectations and the learning outcome we envisage to see from our school-based art lessons. They will also share their views on the experimental approaches being adopted in Hong Kong and across nations in running arts educations. Issues on exploration and sharing of resources will also be addressed. Moderator |
